The success story of India’s first Olive leaf tea unit in Rajasthan is commemorated around the globe. The story has its roots back in Israel, when the pioneer of olive farming in Rajasthan, Chief Minister Mrs. Vasundhara Raje visited the ‘land of miracles’ along with the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Inspired by the amount of Olive plantation and its growing demand due to its miraculous health benefits, the ingenious lady decided to promote olive cultivation in her own state due to a suitable climate.

However, in 2007, the first processed olive leaf unit was set up at Bassi in Rajasthan. Her aim was to garner an international identity for this innovative product grown by the farmers and at the same time, serve the nation with a healthy lifestyle. With the help of technology from Israel, the government planted olives on 5500 acres of land. Soon, the futuristic step started yielding positive outcomes, escalating the incomes of farmers.

An MoU was signed between the Government of Rajasthan and Olitia Food Pvt. Ltd. at the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM) in November 2016, with a promised investment of 10 crores for producing olive tea. In 2017, India’s first maiden processed Olive Tea, ‘Olitia’ was launched by the Chief Minister, Smt. Vasundhara Raje, who urged for better marketing of such agri-products so that the hard-working farmers earn good returns. Even after a rich 3500 years old history of Olive plantation, nobody in the entire world thought of producing tea out of olive leaves.

Well, history was to be written in India and Rajasthan added a feather in its cap for this innovative step.
